How do I declare my major in the College of Public Health?

All students wishing to major in Public Health are required to apply to the program through the College of Public Health (CPH).  The Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) is a selective admission program.

  • Current UK students wishing to change their major to Pre-Public Health (PBPH) may apply to PBPH status during all open UK transfer windows. Students will apply through the Pre-BPH application form.
  • Incoming freshmen should apply through UK Admissions.
  • Transfer students new to the university should apply through UK Admissions.

Students are required to achieve a Pre-BPH curriculum GPA of 3.00 and a Cumulative GPA of 2.75 prior to full admission into the BPH program. This typically occurs following the completion of PBPH student’s sophomore year. Applications for the BPH program are accepted from February 1- June 1 each academic year.

Newly Enrolled Students

Apply to the University of Kentucky. Students are considered for acceptance by the College of Public Health only after acceptance by the University of Kentucky.

Students admitted as freshmen to the University of Kentucky will be admitted as pre-majors (PBPH) to the College of Public Health. Visit the UK Admissions website for information on how to apply to the University. Full admission to the Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) program is typically granted following the sophomore year, once all selective admission criteria  have been met.

Applications to the BPH program are accepted from February 1 through June 1 of each academic year. Students admitted into the BPH program will begin coursework in the fall.  There is no spring admission into the BPH program.

Transfer students will be admitted based on the selective admission criteria completed at the time of application. Visit the UK Admissions website for information on how to apply to the University. If the pre-major courses have not been completed at the time of application to UK, a student will be admitted as pre-major (PBPH) so long as the required GPAs (3.0 on completed pre-major course requirements and 2.75 cumulative grade-point average on all college work attempted) have been met. Transfer students wishing to apply for the BPH program must follow the program’s application deadlines.
