May 17, 2019

Erin HaynesWhen you need quick information on a general topic, where on the internet do you turn? If Wikipedia is one of your first stops, you'll be glad to know that the site is working with public health experts to produce and update content.

Dr. Erin Haynes, professor and chair of Epidemiology at the University of Kentucky College of Public Health, is part of a team honored by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) for using Wikipedia to educate the public. Through a collaboration with Wiki Education, students take on scientific topics to ensure that related content on Wikipedia is accurate, accessible, and timely. Students expand their own knowledge while educating the general public.

NIOSH recognized the program with the Bullard-Sherwood Research-to-Practice Award in the category of Knowledge.
