2019-2020 Dean's Awards for Teaching Recipients

August 05, 2020

The University of Kentucky College of Public Health is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2019-2020 Dean's Awards for Teaching. Selected on the basis of nominations from colleagues and students, these individuals embody excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate students, in both traditional and online formats. Each instructor will receive a commemorative plaque and an honorarium.

Dr. Anna Hoover, Assistant Professor of Preventive Medicine and Environmental Health

Dean's Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Performance Award

“Dr. Hoover is one of the best teachers at UK! She truly cares about her students’ wellbeing, and making sure we understand the material. I really appreciate how flexible she has been since we transitioned to online learning. I am also really appreciative that she takes the time to listen to our concerns about the course and life in general. She turns the material into a discussion, rather than simply giving us facts.”

- Bachelor of Public Health Student

Dr. Erin Abner, Associate Professor of Epidemiology

Dean's Outstanding Graduate Teaching Performance Award

“Dr. Abner is exceptionally dedicated to teaching and mentoring students. Her classes are not only well-prepared but also easy to follow. Although she is super busy with the classes she teaches and her research she always has time for her students. She makes her students believe that we can do it and I think that it is a sign of an ideal teacher. Above all she is a wonderful person and pleasure to work with.”

- Epidemiology & Biostatistics PhD Student

Dr. Amanda Ellis, Assistant Professor of Biostatistics

Dean's Innovation in Teaching Award

“Dr. Ellis is a prompt communicator, an efficient instructor, and overall just a really kind and pleasant person. She is fantastic, and I can’t say enough how much I appreciated how she conducted this class. Her feedback videos especially were helpful and encouraging.”
