LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 3, 2021) - University of Kentucky College of Public Health Assistant Professor Kathleen Winter, PhD, MPH, is joining the Kentucky Department of Public Health (KDPH) as State Epidemiologist.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Winter has been leading the epidemiology efforts for KDPH. On a larger scale, Winter has been presenting to media outlets and other groups on the epidemiology of COVID-19, and the public health response to the pandemic.

In this new role, Winter will oversee KDPH’s Division of Epidemiology and Health Planning. She will also coordinate the tracking of communicable disease, disease surveillance and investigation, injury prevention and research, vital statistics and health data.

“It is an honor to be joining the dedicated team in the Department for Public Health, whose efforts this past year have been truly inspiring,” said Winter. “I am grateful for this opportunity to serve the people of Kentucky.”

Winter will continue to teach at the UK College of Public Health while serving in her new role at KDPH. A comprehensive list of communicable diseases tracked by KDPH appears here.
