Canvas is the learning management system used by the University of Kentucky. Canvas can be accessed by using your Linkblue ID and password at https://www.uky.edu/canvas/.

Setting up a course in Canvas

The first time you log into Canvas, you may not see any courses. Courses will not appear until the registrar lists you as the instructor. To create a non-catalog course or development course, please contact the e-learning team at elearning@uky.edu and provide the following information.

  • Name of the course.

  • The short form of the name that will appear in the top left corner when in the course (limit of 15 characters).

  • Course Organizer/Teacher and UK ID number.

Do not use this option to create a shell for a course listed in the course catalog. Course shells for actual courses will be created for you once you are assigned the course in SAP.

Where can I find more Canvas Resources?

There are a variety of resources provided by UKIT and Canvas. A good starting point is to enroll in a Canvas Orientation course. The courses are self-paced and relatively short. You can enroll in an orientation course by:

  • Log into Canvas using your Linkblue ID and password at https://www.uky.edu/canvas/.

  • On the left-hand navigation panel click on the book icon. This icon will be three icons below the UK logo and will display the word “courses” when you hover over it.

  • Click on All Courses (You may need to scroll to the bottom of the list).

  • Click on the Canvas Instructor Orientation Course, if the course does not appear click on Browse More Courses.

If you are having technical difficulties with Canvas or log in issues, you can contact ITS customer services at 859-218-HELP (4357).

Additionally, Marc Lambert (Marc.Lambert@uky.edu) can assist you in setting up your Canvas course with a suitable template, embedding video, setting up assessments, and general instructional design support.
