Application Process

Step 1) Three Letters of Recommendation

Letters should include at least one previous faculty member, one professional reference, and one of your choice. No family members, please.
Submit via the letter writer using SOPHAS.
Recommendation NOTE: The recommendations should speak specifically about your qualifications to enter an MHA Program. Those that demonstrate your qualities and capabilities will receive stronger consideration. This process can take some time so discuss this with your contacts well in advance. This is often the documents that hold up an application for consideration.

Step 2) Transcripts

Obtain your official current transcripts from ALL previous undergraduate and graduate work. Including any school in which courses transferred.
Transcripts NOTE: Not including all schools often holds up your SOPHAS application
International Students: International transcripts should be evaluated by WES and submitted to SOPHAS. International applicants must have the equivalent of a U.S baccalaureate degree to be considered for admission.
- All applicants whose native language is not English must report one of the following scores on the application: TOELF, IELTS, or DuoLingo. Admission decisions may be based on unofficial scores, but official scores are required before enrollment in fall courses. Otherwise, admission may be revoked.
- Minimum Score Required: TOEFL 79, IELTS 6.5, DuoLingo 115.

Step 3) Resume/CV

Review and revise your resume so it accurately reflects your experiences and skills as well as academic and volunteer accomplishments.

Step 4) Personal Statement

Compose a personal statement that is organized, edited, concise, and clearly answers the questions that have been asked.

Your statement should be approximately two pages in length, double-spaced, and cover the specific questions found in SOPHAS.
Personal Statement NOTE: In addition to the personal statement, if your application is advanced, you will be invited to interview with a panel of faculty and alumni. In preparation, consider pressing healthcare issues, healthcare management challenges, and areas of healthcare of special interest to you.

Step 5) Apply

Submit your application through SOPHAS not the UK Graduate School.
1. SOPHAS Fee $150 for the first program you apply to ($60 for each additional program).
AFTER you are offered admission to the program then, you complete the UK Graduate School application - not before.

Application Review and Selection

Every application submitted is reviewed to determine if it meets the MHA admission requirements. Applicants whose personal statement and materials provide evidence of good fit will be forwarded on to the admissions committee.
Upon review, applicants who are recommended for the next round are invited to campus to interview with a panel of faculty and alumni. Interviews are required as a part of the admission process.

Be ready to speak to how you will contribute to the MHA Program, your interests in healthcare (beyond what you shared in the personal statement) and be aware of current challenges and opportunities in the healthcare sector.

On-campus is highly recommended – especially for students within 250 miles on the UK campus
If you are unable to make it to campus you can choose the virtual option. It will not negatively impact your consideration.

The Annual Safety and Security Report includes the latest statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings owned or controlled by UK; and on public property immediately adjacent to campus. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security. You can access the report at http://go.uky.edu/safetyreport. Paper copies will be provided upon request.

The Annual Fire Safety Report includes statistics for the three previous calendar years concerning reported fires in on-campus student housing facilities, such as residence halls, Greek housing, graduate housing, or at any facility designated as a place of residence for students. The report also includes a description of fire safety systems; yearly fire drills; policies on portable electrical appliances, furniture, decorations, bicycles/motorized scooters, and open flames; evacuation procedures; policies on fire safety education and training; and contact information. The Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA) requires co-educational institutions of higher education that participate in federal student aid and have intercollegiate athletic programs to prepare an annual EADA report. The Report on Athletic Program Participation Rates and Financial Support Data includes athletic participation, staffing, revenues and expenses for men's and women's teams. Cost of Attendance: The total estimated expense to attend UK, including tuition, fees, housing, meals, books, supplies, transportation, and personal expenses.
