The University of Kentucky's College of Public Health welcomes Dr. Albeliz Santiago-Colón, Associate Service Fellow in the Research Planning & Care Integration Unit at the World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program, to our EPI/BIO Lecture Series on October 20th, 2022 at 12pm via Zoom. All CPH students, staff, and faculty are invited.

"Research in the World Trade Center Health Program”

Biography:

Albeliz Santiago-Colón, Ph.D., is an Associate Service Fellow in the Research Planning & Care Integration Unit at the World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program, which is administered by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Originally from Puerto Rico, she received a B.S. in Biology from the University of Puerto Rico and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the University of Cincinnati, where she was a “Molecular Epidemiology in Children’s Environmental Health” Fellow. Her training in epidemiology has focused on environmental health, maternal and child health, and occupational exposure assessment. Before joining the WTC Health Program in 2019, she was an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) Fellow at the Division of Field Studies and Engineering under NIOSH.

Dr. Santiago-Colón assists with integrating research findings of the health impacts arising from the 9/11 attacks into the care and well-being of WTC Health Program members. She recently coauthored a review article “World Trade Center Health Program: First Decade of Research” where she compiled and analyzed over two decades worth of research to support translational research. As an epidemiologist, she specializes in uncovering medical knowledge gaps to inform future WTC Health Program research needs.
