Peter Rock, PhD, is the Director of Biomedical Data Science at the University of Kentucky's Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center. Dr. Rock received his PhD in Clinical and Translation Science from the University of Kentucky, along with his MPH in Health Behavior and BS in Biology, also from the University of Kentucky.
Dr. Rock's career exemplifies translational research, beginning with laboratory-based traumatic brain injury studies as an undergraduate and progressing to population health surveillance and data science. His research interests focus on public health surveillance innovation, machine learning and artificial intelligence applications in epidemiology, opioid overdose prevention, and emergency medical services data systems. Dr. Rock led some of Kentucky's first uses of emergency medical services and syndromic surveillance data for public health purposes, establishing novel surveillance systems still in operation statewide, including early detection of opioid overdose surges during COVID-19.
Dr. Rock is the Multiple Principal Investigator of the CDC-funded Overdose Data to Action Program and Project Director of the NIH-funded Rapid Actionable Data for Opioid Response in Kentucky (RADOR-KY) grant.
