The Epidemiology & Environmental Health and Biostatistics departments at the University of Kentucky College of Public Health (CPH) welcome Yaolin Zhou, MD, associate professor of pathology, head of molecular pathology and director of quality and test utilization at East Carolina University, to the next EPI/Biostats lecture series on April 13th, 2023.
All CPH faculty, staff, and student are invited.
Presentation title: "“EPIDEM for Improving Real World Health Issues in Epidemiology and Environmental Health"
Dr. Zhou received her public policy degree at Duke, medical education at Mayo, and pathology training at University of Alabama Birmingham and Cleveland Clinic. In 2007, while serving as chair of the University of Oklahoma Physicians Practice Quality committee, Dr. Zhou developed the EPIDEM quality improvement (QI) model, designed to demystify and democratize QI.
As the only molecular pathologist in a predominantly rural, 29-county, eastern North Carolina region, Dr. Zhou applies EPIDEM to increase patient access to molecular diagnostic services that are safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable.
The EPIDEM model encompasses six steps of Exploration, Promotion, Implementation, Documentation, Evaluation, and Modification. By emphasizing exploratory steps, this model is especially well-suited for addressing complex problems in medicine and public health.
