On behalf of the Biostatistics and Epidemiology departments at the University of Kentucky's College of Public Health, we are excited to welcome Dr. Taras K. Oleksyk, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Oakland University, to our next seminar titled "Parts Unknown on the Road with a Map of the Human Genome".
Dr. Oleksyk's research is on evolution, comparative genomics, environmental toxicology, and genetic epidemiology. He studies genomics and admixture of human populations with the focus on the Caribbean and Eastern European populations. His research is a part of the international Human Genome Diversity Project and the goal is to examine and map patterns of human genetic variation across the world. Dr. Oleksyk’s research has contributed in adding both Russia and Ukraine to this global genomic map and identify rare genetic disease-associated variants.
