Dr. Radmila Choate is an Associate Professor of Research in the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health and an affiliated faculty member of the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging at the University of Kentucky.

She holds a PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and an MPH in Epidemiology from the University of Kentucky, as well as an MD-equivalent degree from Tbilisi State Medical University in Georgia. Dr. Choate is a current ASCEND Scholar with the Center for Health, Equity, and Transformation (CHET) and a Multiple Chronic Conditions (MCC) Scholar with the AGING Initiative.

Her research centers on the epidemiology of chronic diseases, with a particular focus on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency-associated COPD, chronic pancreatitis, cognitive impairment, and multimorbidity. She examines the burden of disease and health-related quality of life in older adults with complex chronic health conditions. Her current work explores how multimorbidity and financial burden impact outcomes among individuals aging with chronic illness.

Dr. Choate is a long-standing collaborator with AlphaNet and the COPD Foundation. Committed to interdisciplinary research, Dr. Choate partners with investigators across the University of Kentucky, as well as with national and international collaborators. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and regularly presents her work at national and international scientific meetings.
