In celebration of Black History Month, the UK Master of Health Administration Student Association (UK MHA), at the University of Kentucky College of Public Health, proudly presents "The Melanin Elements of Healthcare" event on Friday, February 24th starting at 10:30am in the UK Athletics Association Auditorium at the William T. Young Library on campus.
All students, faculty, and staff are welcome to attend. Light lunch will be provided.
The Cleveland Clinic defines melanin as a substance in your body that produces hair, eye and skin pigmentation. As a result, the more melanin you produce, the darker your eyes, hair and skin will be. The amount of melanin in your body depends on a few different factors, including genetics and how much sun exposure your ancestral population had.
A dynamic panel will discuss the melanin elements of healthcare and how this impacts the field of public health.
Panel Speakers include:
Timothy Gaillard, FACHE, MHA, MSBA, Vice President UK Medical Group and Ambulatory Services at UK HealthCare
Tukea Talbert, Chief Diversity Officer at UK HealthCare
Darwin L. Conwell, MD, MS, FACG, Chair, Department of Internal Medicine at UK Healthcare
George C. Wright, Professor, Senior Adviser to the President, Vice President for Institutional Diversity at the College of Arts & Science at the University of Kentucky
