The Department of Epidemiology & Environmental Health welcomes faculty candidate Shannon S. Cigan, PhD. on Thursday, February 23rd at 2pm - 3pm (zoom only).
Dr. Cigan is an environmental epidemiologist who integrates laboratory science and epidemiologic methods into the study of human cancer. Specifically, her research program focuses on identifying social determinants of health, genetics, environmental risk factors (with a special interest in biomarkers of trace and toxic metals and tobacco exposure), and their combined role in the underlying mechanisms of cancer etiology and disparities.
Dr. Cigan will highlight projects across three main areas of her research program including utilizing biomarkers of environmental exposures to evaluate risk, applying statistical methods to identify genetic variation to understand inter-individual differences that may impact cancer risk, and developing new methods for environmental exposure assessment.
