The University of Kentucky's College of Public Health (CPH) and the Health Management & Policy (HMP) department welcomes Dr. Dana Quesinberry, Assistant Research Professor in the HMP department at CPH, on October 25th at 10am to 11am for a seminar (in-person and virtual option available).

All CPH students, staff, and faculty are invited.

Seminar Title:

"Intertwining Surveillance Datasets for Prevention Planning: Novel Use of Case Fatality Rate to Assess Drug Overdose Trends"

Biography:

Dana Quesinberry, JD DrPH, is currently an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Health Management and Policy at the University of Kentucky College of Public Health.

As a practicing attorney early in the opioid epidemic, she saw the impact of the crisis on individuals, their families, and the community.  From her representation of children removed from their substance using parents to the prosecution of drug charges, it was evident that legal interventions alone were insufficient to address the increasing substance use and resulting harms.

For five years, Dana focused on education, prevention, and deterrent efforts through the Rowan County UNITE Coalition, a community anti-drug coalition funded by Operation UNITE and a SAMHSA Drug Free Communities Support grant.

To learn more about public health approaches, Dana returned to school to earn her Doctorate in Public Health.

As a faculty associate at the Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center and co-principal investigator for the CDC-funded Overdose Data to Action Program, Dr. Quesinberry has conducted public health surveillance studies of drug overdoses, assessed and improved data quality and methodology, and translated data to inform prevention and intervention actions.
