The University of Kentucky College of Public Health (CPH) welcomes back Linda Kim as the new Multimedia Specialist, part of the Marketing and Communications (MarCom) team.
Linda will champion curating all creative, dynamic assets for CPH in areas of graphic design, photography, videography, and more.
“I am so happy to be back with the College of Public Health,” says Linda. “The staff and faculty here are warm, welcoming, accommodating and team driven. The college has so much valuable content and work to share with the university and public health community, and I am looking forward to translating this value across multiple types of media for people to learn more about the college.”
Linda believes that the Multimedia Specialist division on the Marcom team will play an integral role in communicating all aspects of CPH, furthering the mission of developing health champions, conducting multidisciplinary and applied research, and collaborating with partners to improve health in Kentucky and beyond.
“From capturing special moments to telling stories visually, this division is not only a communicator but an active participant in the college’s events, lectures, and content,” says Linda. “With a strong understanding of the work done at the college along with an ability to engage and create, the multimedia specialist division uplifts the college’s existing strengths and ensures that these strengths can extend to a wide audience.”
Originally from Lexington, KY, Linda is a second-generation Korean American. Linda’s biggest influences, professionally and personally, are the members of her support system, including family and friends.
“They are very close and important to me; they serve as inspirations to the stories I tell, the faces that come up in my work, and the voices I want to uplift,” says Linda. “Growing up, my family and I always bonded together over musicals, movies, shows, and more. My friends and I also shared a lot of similar interests when it came to the arts, which helped shape my creative identity that is still being formed today.”
“As a Korean American and being surrounded by many other first and second-generation immigrants, I always want to ensure that the content I produce is representative, accessible, and open to all,” adds Linda.
Linda graduated from the Math Science and Technology Center at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, a rigorous gifted program that focused on STEM and preparing students for success through a 360-hour capstone research project.
After high school, Linda enrolled as a student at the University of Kentucky. She grappled with finding her academic and professional lane and chose to start with a Pre-Physician Assistant (PA) track.
“I continued to live out my creative passions in my free time, managing freelance photography, videography, and graphic design,” says Linda.
Linda decided to declare her new major in Marketing and minor in Digital Media and Design. Linda then joined CPH as a Student Graphic Designer in April of 2020.
In addition to being a full-time student, Linda was a marketing and graphic design intern for UK Libraries, and a graphic designer for the KRNL L+F magazine at the University of Kentucky.
After graduating in May 2022, Linda worked as a Digital Media Designer for FIT by Katy, a women-led fitness app based in Louisville, Kentucky. She created digital assets and served as a creative content creator on their marketing team.
