Greetings from the University of Kentucky College of Public Health's MHA Program!

We are excited to give you a peek at all the wonderful things that have happened in the program during 2022 and the beginning of the new year.

I am so very thankful to each of you for the insights and advice you have provided since my arrival. Your engagement with our students and input around the curriculum, the competency model, and professional development of the students is invaluable. I have been very impressed with the loyalty of each “Wildcat” I’ve spoken to this past year.

Our alumni and friends are the heart of this program which is why we are reaching out directly and will continue to send an annual update to share accomplishments, opportunities, and future plans for the program. I encourage each one of you to connect with me if you would like to be more or differently, involved so we can find the right fit for you.

Our year has been full of information gathering and reflection.

The faculty have been hard at work reviewing our competency model, revising the curriculum, and expanding professional development with a new case competition program, leader development series, formal onboarding, and much more.

In September of 2022, we launched the Administrative Practicum Positions, where full-time students work at UK HealthCare alongside leaders. They have been placed with ambulatory services, the Children’s Hospital, Entity Leadership Triads, External Affairs, Eastern State, the PACE group, and many more. In February, we gathered preceptor feedback to integrate into our new student competency attainment dashboards.

We are grateful for our program partners, faculty, friends of the program, and our students. Together we can make a difference!

I look forward to seeing some of you in Chicago for ACHE and others when you travel to Lexington. I would welcome an opportunity to talk with you – just send me a message! Please stay in touch – update a new position or a new location with me anytime!

Thank YOU! My job is a joyous one because of the UK MHA Family! Go CATS!

Wildcats Give Back - Alumni & Friends Involvement Opportunities (Just to get us started)

Lunch with a Leader:

If you’re coming to or live in town, we would love to host you on campus and invite a few of our students to sit down for lunch or coffee.

Students learn so much when they can have small group discussions with our alums. This is an opportunity for them to make meaningful connections and learn about your journey. Email me if you are coming our way!

Alumni Council:

We have opportunities for you to participate in our newly formed Alumni Council that started in January 2022. Our goal was to increase access for our students to our alums and gain immediate, relevant insight into the best way to prepare our students to be competitive in internships, fellowships, and postgraduate placements.

This group includes UK MHA alumni who have graduated in the last seven years and participate in giving us input into the industry needs for new graduates by validating the skills (competencies) students should be developing in our program.

Mentoring:

We’ve also developed a mentoring program that is seeking mentors for the August 2023 cohort. Mentors support and assist students navigate their path to leadership.

Case Competitions & Professional Development:

Join our case competition feedback group, guest lecture in a course, develop an internship or fellowship, support student scholarships to professional conferences, or be a sounding board for a student – every little bit helps.
