On May 4th, the University of Kentucky College of Public Health (CPH) invites our faculty, staff, students, and special guests and friends, to the 2023 CPH Awards Night event, an opportunity to celebrate each other and recognize outstanding achievements.

Join us for a fun celebration, food, and fellowship at the Gatton Student Center in the Ballroom on campus. The 2023 awards include:

Faculty Research Award

The 100 Pub Club recognizes faculty who reached the 100 published peer review journal articles and at the same time incentivize other faculty members to aspire to similar levels of scholarly productivity.  

The Paper of the Year Award recognizes outstanding scholarship based on articles with most impact and recognition in their respective fields. Two awards will be given:  

  1. Paper of the Year authored/co-authored by a tenured faculty member  
  2. Paper of the Year authored/co-authored by a non-tenured or non-tenure track faculty member 

100 Pub Club Criteria

Nomination or self-nominations should include a list of peer-review publications, demonstrating the 100-publication milestone.   

Paper of the Year Award Criteria  

All peer-reviewed journal articles on which the CPH faculty member have served as lead or senior author, and which were published within five years of December 31, 2022, are eligible for nomination. The five-year eligibility period will allow time for articles to accumulate citations. Nominations/self-nominations should include evidence supporting the impact and recognition of the paper.

Staff of the Year Award

Staff of the Year Award recognizes three CPH staff that demonstrate outstanding professionalism, support and communication, quality of work, and teamwork.

Student Awards (nominations from CPH staff and faculty)

CPH staff and faculty are invited to nominate students for the following awards. Below you will find the descriptions of each award.  Please note that ALL College of Public Health students are eligible for awards, not just those who are graduating.

  • Howard L. Bost (Undergraduate): Awarded to an undergraduate student who through service and leadership has made the greatest contribution to the welfare and success of fellow students and the College of Public Health.
  • Howard L. Bost (Graduate): Awarded to a graduate student who through service and leadership has made the greatest contribution to the welfare and success of fellow students and the College of Public Health.
  • John Sterling Wiggs "Golden Rule" (Undergraduate): Awarded to an undergraduate student who has demonstrated a commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion in the field of public health, gerontology, biostatistics, or health administration.
  • John Sterling Wiggs "Golden Rule" (Graduate): Awarded to a graduate student who has demonstrated a commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion in the field of public health, gerontology, biostatistics, or health administration.
  • Undergraduate Research Award (BPH): Awarded to a BPH student whose research activities demonstrate the potential to make an impact in the area of public health research.
  • Outstanding Student (BPH): Awarded to a student who has demonstrated above-and-beyond excellence in the BPH program.
  • Outstanding Student (MHA): Awarded to a student who has demonstrated above-and-beyond excellence in the MHA program.
  • Outstanding Student (MPH - Environmental Health): Awarded to a student who has demonstrated above-and-beyond excellence in their MPH concentration.
  • Outstanding Student (MPH - Epidemiology):  Awarded to a student who has demonstrated above-and-beyond excellence in their MPH concentration.
  • Outstanding Student (MPH - Health Behavior): Awarded to a student who has demonstrated above-and-beyond excellence in their MPH concentration.
  • Outstanding Student (MPH - Health Management Policy / Health Systems & Policy Analytics): Awarded to a student who has demonstrated above-and-beyond excellence in their MPH concentration.
  • Outstanding Student (Doctoral - Epi/Bio): Awarded to a student who has demonstrated above-and-beyond excellence in their doctoral concentration.
  • Outstanding Student (Doctoral - Gerontology): Awarded to a student who has demonstrated above-and-beyond excellence in their doctoral concentration.
  • Outstanding Student (Doctoral - DrPH): Awarded to a student who has demonstrated above-and-beyond excellence in their doctoral concentration.
  • Outstanding Students (Doctoral - Health Services Research): Awarded to a student who has demonstrated above-and-beyond excellence in their doctoral concentration.
