East Liverpool, Ohio sits on the Ohio River in northeastern Ohio. Bordering Pennsylvania and West Virginia, East Liverpool lies about 40 miles from both Youngstown and downtown Pittsburgh. East Liverpool was once the center of the American pottery industry and was coined the “Pottery Capital of the Nation”. Located in downtown East Liverpool, the Museum of Ceramics has the world's largest public display of the porcelain known as Lotus Ware. The city reached its peak in 1970 with a population over 26,000 but rapidly declined along with the pottery industry. Currently, there are three remaining potteries.
East Liverpool is home to three districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places: The East Fifth Street Historic District, the Diamond Historic District, and the East Liverpool Downtown Historic District. Many unique architecture styles are prominent throughout the city such as Neoclassical, Italianate and Second Empire.
