Dr. Sabrina Brown is an Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology. Her research is focused on violence prevention, developing statewide surveillance and reporting systems, and system evaluation. She developed the CDC-funded Kentucky Violent Death Reporting System, and continues to serve as project PI. She also partnered with Kentucky coroners to develop the statewide Coroner Investigation Report, as detailed in American Journal of Health Behavior. Dr. Brown has also designed curriculum for annual coroner in-service trainings aimed at improving coroner death investigations, record keeping, and reporting practices. She has spearheaded several population-based studies: differences in suicide between men and women, intimate partner violence, homicide-suicides and infant death. Prior to her academic career, Dr. Brown worked as a broadcast journalist. In addition to her scholarly work, she continues to write for lay audiences about issues of interpersonal and domestic violence.
