The College of Public Health employs both Teaching Assistants and Instructional Assistants. Teaching Assistants are recognized by the Graduate School and Instructional Assistants are hired by the college but not recognized by the Graduate School. Currently only PhD students are eligible to be teaching assistantships. Undergraduate and Master level students can be hired as instructional assistants. The duties that can be performed by each are similar.
All requests for teaching assistants or instructional assistant should be sent to the chair or vice-chair of the department. Assistants are usually assigned based on course level and enrollment. Instructors should not be soliciting students to assist in a course prior to discussing with the chair or vice-chair of the department.
Information about TA types and responsibilities can be found at https://gradschool.uky.edu/ta-types-teaching-credentials. Duties for Instructional Assistants are similar.
If you are having any issues with a TA, please contact the department Chair or the Vice Chair. If an issue does arise, please contact as soon as possible.
